First spring weekend

It sure did feel like spring this weekend! The weather was absolutely gorgeous, bringing us out of the house and into the garden. We did a bunch of clearing of last years growth (should have been done in the fall ~ oh well), admiring all of the greens that are popping up (chickweed, henbit, comfrey, violet, liferoot, mint), and planting potatoes. David and Alex also spent one day improving the old chicken house. We passed our old laying flock onto another farm and will welcome 15ish new hens this week. With an empty house, we took the opportunity to gussy up the place ~ new laying boxes, new floor (hello, linoleum), and (finally!) exterior siding. It looks great and is ready for some new lovely laying hens !

Nimuae had her TOPHAT performance at Asheville Community Theater last week. She has been attending the class for 9 weeks working on a play called The Leprechaun Shoemaker in which she played the parts of Kathleen and the Beggar Fairy/Fairy Queen. She absolutely loved the class (a homeschooling theater experience), loved practicing her lines at night, and loved being on the stage. Here are some scenes from the big day....

It is so hard to capture Noah on film these days ~ with him being away at school and then with friends after school and weekends. But this past weekend, I was able to snap a few shots of Noah playing with his little cousin, Eliseo. Noah has such a calming effect on the little guy.... we joke that he is the "baby whisperer".

Yesterday Gita got to take a trip down the valley to Mellow Spring visiting her dear friend, MichealJohn, while David cleaned his windows. She has a very special place in her heart (as all the Carmonas do) for MichealJohn ~ local grandpa, dance partner, fishing teacher extraordinaire. Gita was very excited to take the camera with her to capture some photos of their time together.
