October 20th

The Monday following the LEAF festival always feels a little hectic. We have such a great weekend...full of amazing music and family friendly fun. But the house and van fall into disaster mode, the fridge gets emptied, and energy runs low. Today is also Gita Pi Luca's 4th Birthday! We will have a party tonight (photos to come, I am sure), but the daytime ran much like any other Monday, with 2 major exceptions....pumpkins and acrobats!
We dropped Noah off for his Monday Waldorf home-schooling co-op (Mr Crowe, his teacher, said that the egg Noah is whittling made a major improvement today....pictures to come) and noticed that the church in which the classes are held was having a pumpkin sale. So after class, we picked out pumpkins...some for jack-o-lanterns, some for decorations, and some to give as party favors at Gita's party. The pumpkins are donated by farmers and then the proceeds go to the church mission programs. One of the funnest parts from the great pumpkin picking was figuring out how much each pumpkin cost. They had a row of examples with the price written in marker. The kids would pick out their pumpkin and then line it up near the example that they thought was the most similar. So there was a lot of "hmmm, I think that one may be more like a 4.00 pumpkin than a 5.00 pumpkin.." and so on. A neat lesson in estimating.

After seeing the Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats at the LEAF festival this weekend, David took the girls to see them in town this morning.....a super bonus of homeschooling.....being able to catch a 10:30am show on a Monday morning!

Happy birthday Gita!!

My father's last name is Crowe. There aren't to many of them around here, although six brothers came over in the 1880's and spread out over the country. Pretty neat.
